Deity Offering Braids
These offering braids have been lovingly handmade using cotton thread. They can be hung in your home, in your sacred space or outdoors in your garden.
The idea being that this braid is an offering for your desired deity, it will serve as a visual reminder of your connection with the gods.
For the making of these braids I use a lucet, which is a braiding fork. The lucet has been used for centuries to make braids for shoelaces, belts and corsets. It was known to have been used during the Viking period.
For the braid I have used macrame cotton in a beige tone and then a thin cotton thread with colours chosen to match their designated deity. Once woven I attach a wooden rune to the braid and two small bells. If you wish to you could tie on further trinkets to the other remaining tassels. Each braid is made by hand so sizing can vary.. approximate sizing is 11cm x 25cm.
Current choices are:
Frigga, the all mother. Lavender purple and beige braid, to represent her gentleness and prophetic abilities. Berkana rune, the rune of the birch tree and of new beginnings.
Odin, the all father. Red and beige braid, to represent life, exploration and Odin’s power. Ansuz rune, the rune of communication and knowledge.
Loki, the god of mischief. Green and beige braid, to represent deception, cunning but also the masculinity of nature. Ansuz in reverse rune, the rune of miscommunication and trickery.
